Media Influence on Ideas
The mass media, including television, radio and newspapers, have great influence in shaping people’s ideas. To what extent do you agree or disagree to this statement? Give reasons for your answer.
The increasing spread of broadcast business has started affecting the audience to a larger extent. Owing to the ability of audio-video media’s intruding power to instil belief in terms of advertisement and news based publicity, I am in favour of this optimism.
The household electronics revolution has made grasping the media very easy making one’s belief as true whatever is shown on television. The ever-increasing consumption of media content has not only impacted adults but also children. Lucrative advertisements visualised on paper or listened over a radio change the belief system of a person gradually. Research at MIT shows more than 50% of goods sell comes from hyped marketing strategies bombarded over multiple mediums of audio, video and paper. Consumer purchases items even though it is not fulfilling needs. This shift of mind is proof of changing perspective and habits towards the consumption of goods and services.
Showcasing the product in a repeated manner to probable customers bend thoughts of the consumer whereas shocking and fearful news may help political parties and public figures an upper hand in publicity. Manipulated and twisted news for the benefit of the individual is one of the examples which influences the crowd’s mindset. Empirical research at Oxford University shows more than 65% of news are either fake or paid for varied reasons.
Hence, public media platforms dilute society’s thought process at a larger level. Misuse of such media in such a way that can enforce consumer to buy something is gaining popularity. Public figure’s use of media without ethos imprint wrong belief in people’s ideation process.
